Agriculture Ministry mulls no export duty for Russian wheat

MOSCOW, Mar 12 (PRIME) -- The Agriculture Ministry is not discussing an export duty, Minister Dmitry Patrushev told reporters on Thursday.

When asked whether the ministry may cancel the zero export duty, he said, “You mean introduction of an export duty on wheat? No, we are not discussing it.”

Russia introduced a wheat export duty in February 2015 as a significant weakening of the ruble resulted in higher export prices for wheat and created risks a grain deficit in Russia. The duty was reduced to zero in September 2016. In July 2019, the government prolonged the zero wheat export duty until July 1, 2021.
